     Pura Luhur Uluwatu or Uluwatu Temple is a temple located in the village of Pecatu, Kuta District, Badung. The temple, which is located on the southwestern tip of the island of Bali on a steep, high rock platform and protrudes into the sea, is the Sad Kayangan Temple which is believed by Hindus to be a buffer of nine winds. This temple was originally used as a place to worship a holy priest from the 11th century named Empu Kuturan. He lowered the teachings of the Customary Village with all the rules. This temple is also used to worship the next holy priest, Dang Hyang Nirartha, who came to Bali at the end of 1550 and ended his holy journey with what is called Moksa or Ngeluhur in this place. This word is the origin of the name Pura Luhur Uluwatu. Uluwatu Temple is located at an altitude of 97 meters above sea level. In front of the temple, there is a small forest called alas Kekeran, which serves as a buffer for the sanctity of the temple. Uluwatu Temple has several temples ordered, namely temples that are closely related to the main temple. The message temples are Bajurit Temple, Pererepan Temple, Kulat Temple, Dalem Selonding Temple and Dalem Pangleburan Temple. Each of these temples has close links with Uluwatu Temple, especially on its Piodalan days. Piodalan in Pura Uluwatu, Pura Bajurit, Pura Pererepan and Pura Kulat fall on Tuesday Kliwon Wuku Medangsia every 210 days. The manifestation of God worshipped at Uluwatu Temple is Dewa Rudra. 

     Uluwatu Temple has also become famous because right below it is Pecatu beach which is often used as a place for surfing, even international events are often held here.
